Burberry Exhibition Recently I was lucky enough to make it to Burberry's most recent exhibition, Makers House. And it was gorgeous! Just imagine being submerged in all things Burberry, mmm.
Burberry's SS17 collection was inspired by Virginia Woolf's novel 'Orlando', where the protagonist undergoes a change in gender, this is reflected throughout the garments that aren't gender specific. This was also the first collection Burberry had that's available to 'buy now' straight off the catwalk, bridging the gap between luxury and 'fast fashion'. If you're lucky enough to be able to afford one of these gorgeous pieces there were private cars waiting outside to take you from the display straight to store to make your purchase - oh what a life!
The Makers house exhibition cellebrated the craftsmanship behind their collection and allowed the public to 'meet the makers' each dedicated to creating the best of British crafts and capturing British culture. The space looked like an array of workshops, with one wall covered in fashion illustrations and material swatches, giving an insight into the creative process that goes on behind closed doors. Areas of the space were filled with overgrown flower displays and equestrian sculptures, all harshly lit by strong spotlights creating overpowering shadows and enhancing textures that surrounded you. You were fully immersed in Burberry scents, and taken back to old England.
