REI KAWAKUBO & THE EMPOWERMENT OF WOMEN

Contextual studies ​While final term consisted of my favourite Fashion Promotion projects yet, summer was looming and the thought of having to also complete a contextual essay fell to the back of my mind...oops However that was until I began researching the extreme silhouettes of Rei Kawakubo, in and out of Comme des Garçons and the influence (or not) they've had on empowerment and female identity. While her designs are interesting by themselves, taking a deeper look at the voice portrayed behind the silhouettes and the influence they have had on both the wearers and viewers of the collection created a whole new story to Kawakubo's extreme garments, that I couldn't help but be intrigued by. and strangest thing was, I actually enjoyed writing it. I'd even go as far as looking into fashion journalism - but maybe I should wait for my grade back first Take a read if you feel...
