Jeff Koons Recently Jeff Koons had his most extensive exhibition to date at Newport Street Gallery. The exhibition consisted of sculptures such as his early florescent lit vacuum cleaners, floating basketballs, stainless steel balloon monkey - I had the biggest urge to squeeze - and probably my favourite 'Play-Doh' a three-metre high mound of polychrome aluminium, along with some rather controversial paintings. While I love a bit of modern art, where maybe the meaning isn't so obvious I think my favourite thing about the Jeff Koons exhibition was when I discovered the materials he had used. I couldn't believe that the balloon monkey and 'Play-Doh' were both created out of harsh metals, the form and shape of the sculptures were so detailed and realistic it was hard to believe they were anything other than a balloon and actual giant play dough!
Pharmacy 2 Pharmacy 2 at Newport Street Gallery is also great to go look/eat at. Damien Hirst collabed with Mark His to create Pharmacy 2, a restaurant that serves classic British and European food, and expresses their passion for quality food made from fresh ingredients. This contrasts against the drug store theme, the walls are cabinets filled with pots of tablets, portraying all the different chemicals we consume over a human life time. While the bright colours add a sense of fun, your eyes don't know where to look.
